TerrOïko develops innovative digital technologies for the processing, analysis, and modeling of data in support of biodiversity. Founded in 2012 by Catherine de Roincé, an AgroParisTech engineer and PhD in agro-ecology, and Sylvain Moulherat, a PhD in ecology, the company bridges the gap between scientific research, software development, data science, and ecological engineering.
TerrOïko has designed and operates the SimOïko modeling software for the simulation of species population dynamics, the development of which stems from Sylvain Moulherat's doctoral thesis work and 10 years of ecology research. This technology allows for simulations of the life of flora and fauna within a landscape: the simulator gives birth to young that grow, reproduce and move over time. This virtual reality enables urban and natural areas managers to streamline their project management and make informed decisions that impact the future of their territory.
Additionally, TerrOïko focuses on monitoring and integrating biodiversity data, linking it with geographic information systems (GIS), modeling buildings, transportation infrastructures, and cities (BIM/CIM), the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and digital twins.
In many respects, the scientific expertise and high technical proficiency of our team make TerrOïko unique in its approach to living organisms and ecological processes. Based on our R&D efforts, we design operational products and services tailored to the needs of biodiversity stakeholders, aimed at improving the quality of their projects while managing costs and timelines.
Our Reason for Being
We believe that biodiversity management and preservation must leverage the tools of the 21st century. To achieve this, we develop and select innovative ecological engineering solutions based on digital technologies, data processing methods, our expertise in scientific ecology, and the transfer of the latest scientific research advancements.
Our Activities
Software Development for Ecological Engineering
TerrOïko develops technological tools and services for ecological engineers. We commercialize SimOïko, a unique biodiversity simulation software, and Ocapi, an AI-based software for analyzing flora and fauna data coming from field sensors.
Biodiversity research services
Our internal consultancy supports stakeholders in territorial planning, local authorities, natural area managers, and infrastructure managers in their projects. Our team consists of PhDs and engineers in ecology who combine scientific expertise with project management experience, leveraging the advanced capabilities of our software tools.
Consulting in Tool and Method Design
We assist clients in their technological and methodological choices, designing indicators, selecting data, conducting scientific approaches, defining analysis processes and algorithms, and implementing digital platforms for presenting results.
Training Programs
We train professionals involved in biodiversity management in the use of our tools and in the new methods of ecological engineering: data processing techniques, technology selection, and the operational implementation of scientific results.
Research Support
We help structure, coordinate, or carry out R&D programs on behalf of or alongside public and private stakeholders.
